1.         SERMON RECAP

(Visit  pmc.org.sg  to listen to the sermon and download a copy of the Powerpoint slides)

a.       Why did Paul say that he was a debtor to the Gentiles?

                                 i.            Firstly, Paul realised that he was a debtor to Christ, cf. Gal 2:20.

ii.            Secondly, he realised that he was no different from the Gentiles, in that he was a sinner and Christ died for everyone.

iii.            Therefore, his indebtedness to God overflowed to the Gentiles, to whom God has called him to be an apostle(cf. Acts 26:15-18).

2.         LIVE IT OUT

a.       Like Paul, do you have a view of yourself being "a debtor"?  (There are some people who feel that the whole world owes them something!)

                                 i.            Think about your attitude in prayer, or to the church.  Do they reflect "a debtor", or more of a consumer asking for more?  How can you make a shift this week?

ii.            Share with the group your thoughts and feelings.  (Break into smaller groups if it helps)

b.      Paul felt like a debtor when he finally understood that God intended the Jews, the chosen nation, to be a blessing to other nations (Gentiles).  All that God has given Israel was ultimately for giving to the world.  In this sense, Israel “owed” the Gentiles something.

                                 i.            As a life group, list 10 things you can do together to bless the less fortunate and often neglected people.

ii.            Chose 2 out of the 10, and set a date to do 1 in each half of 2016.

4.         GOING DEEPER

a.       What was it about the church in Rome that Paul was so thankful for (v8)?  Was it something they did, i.e. in their lifestyle as followers of Jesus? List below the positive and negative things you have heard from people outside (or your own observations) about PMC.
