[For Group Leaders:
- The following serves only as a guide.
Please feel free to edit and adapt.
- You are strongly encouraged to allow members to share using the POP
Journal (4Rs) at the beginning of your group time. This would deepen your fellowship and enrich
everyone in the Word.
1. SERMON RECAP (Visit pmc.org.sg to listen to the sermon and download a copy of the Powerpoint slides) Four Perspectives on Obeying Authorities a. God is sovereign in appointing our
government and leaders b. God installs human authorities to
uphold righteousness and justice c. God wants us to do what is right d. God wants us to prosper our nation/s 2. LIVE
IT OUT a. Do you agree with this statement:
“If a government or authority ceases to be a force for good and order, but
instead becomes an instrument of evil and death, it is no longer a
Christian’s duty to submit and obey that authority”? (cf. Rom 13:3-4 , Acts 5:29). > Discuss > Share an example from your own life b. Think about the
"authorities" or leaders in your life, be it at work, at home or in
school. > Is there anyone whom you have an issue with submitting to, honoring,
or respecting? If so, why? > Share your struggles with your group > Take time to pray for yourself, and the one whom you have
difficulty with. c. Some of us disregard or cheat the
government by using falsified parking coupons or breaking traffic rules. Is this justifiable? Share and hear one another out. > As the Lord convicts, make a decision to do differently from now
on. 3. PRAY Please refer to the
PMC Mobile App, “MyPMC”, for our weekly prayer guide. [Click on “PRAY”, then “Let’s Pray”] a. Let us pray for all government
scholars – those who are currently serving the bond and those who are
studying in various universities. Most
of them will be groomed for various key positions in the government. > Pray for a clear understanding of the role of policy makers, what
it means to govern a nation and a passion for civil service. > Pray by name if you know any government scholars. “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions,
prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and
all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all
godliness and holiness.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2 b. Pray for our Singapore leaders by
