LIVE-IT-OUT GUIDE

SESSION 1 - ABEL

Read Genesis 4:1-16

1)      What were the respective “vocations” of Cain and Abel?

2)      Why does God respond differently to their offerings? What insight does Hebrews 11:1-4 and 1 John 3:11-12 give us?

3)      How does Cain respond to God’s lack of regard for his offering? What does that tell us about Cain’s heart?

4)      What does God’s response tell us about the way He views our “offerings”?

5)      Is there something that you are offering God with a wrong attitude or motive? If so, what should you do?

6)      Why do you think God asked Cain so many questions when God obviously knew Cain’s heart and actions?

7)      In verse 7, God told Cain that if he does not do well, “sin is crouching at the door… its desire is for you”. What do you think that means?

8)      Is there an area of vulnerability where sin is “crouching at the door,” waiting to attack you? If so, how are you handling it?

9)      God exhorted Cain in Genesis 4:7 to master sin. How do we do that?

10)  What can we learn about God from this narrative of Cain and Abel?

11)  Hebrews 12:24 tells us that the “sprinkled blood” of Jesus speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. What does that mean and why is it true?
