EPHESIANS LIVE-IT-OUT GUIDE

(MEMBER VERSION)

SESSION 12: EPHESIANS 6:10-24

Read Ephesians 6:10-24

1)      Paul concludes his letter to the Ephesians by urging them to “be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (v10, ESV). In view of what Paul has taught throughout the letter, why do you think he concludes in this manner?

2)      Consider verses 11 and 12. Why is it important for the Ephesians to rely on God’s strength and to put on the whole armour of God?

3)      What “schemes of the devil” (v11, ESV) might we expect having studied the rest of the book?

        i.            To feel _____________________ when we are in fact spiritually rich (1:3).

ii.            To base our salvation on ___________________ when it is based purely on _________________ (2:8-9).

iii.            Division between ________________ when Christ has brought _____________ (2:13-16).

iv.            Doubt in the ______________ proclaimed by Paul, instead of _______________ (3:7-13).

       v.            _________________ within the Church, instead of peace (4:3).

     vi.            __________________________, when Christ desires __________________ (4:13-14).

vii.            _________________ minds, when God desires renewed minds (4:17-24).

viii.            An ____________________ life, when God desires true ___________________ (4:17-24).

ix.            _____________________, where God desires forgiveness (4:31-32).

       x.            ___________________________________, instead of purity (5:3-6).

     xi.            ____________________, instead of Spirit-filled wisdom (5:18).

xii.            ____________________ relationships, instead of godly submission (5:22 – 6:9).

4)      List down the different parts that make up the armour of God. Go through the list and next to each piece of armour, write down where the words have been previously mentioned in Ephesians (e.g. For “belt of truth”, write down where the word (or concept) of “truth” has come up before). From this exercise, what can we learn about the armour of God?

5)      The extent to which we rely on God’s strength is reflected by our prayer life. What do verses 18 to 20 teach us about the way we should pray?

6)      Take a moment to review the whole of Ephesians (as an LG, you may choose to read out loud the entire letter at this point! After all, that is how the letter was first heard.)

In the past 6 months studying the letter, what is one thing that has impacted you, challenged you or excited you? What is one thing that you continue to struggle with or find difficult?

CLOSING PRAYER

Close the session by praying for one another, focusing your prayer on what has been shared in question 6.  Pray for every LG member to put on the whole armour of God – that they would know the gospel, live out the gospel, and proclaim the gospel, as taught in Ephesians.
